The COVA Approach

When I first started the ADL program last October, I was so worried, anxious, and concerned with the way that the classes were. I wasn't used to this type of learning approach. I was only used to learning through lectures, and the regurgitation of information, but as the semester progressed, I saw first hand what COVA was all about. I loved the project, papers, and research and most importantly I loved having choice, ownership, and voice through authentic learning opportunities (COVA). I see the benefits of giving students the COVA Approach, helping students learn how to learn and making the learning meaningful. After learning more about the COVA model and actually being immersed in it, I can see the appeal and the benefits. I believe that this learning approach increases motivation, engagement, and ownership, which could definitely fix some of the issues that traditional didactic teaching has. Students are usually more invested in the learning when they have choice and voice.
